Our point of view

Most CLM software companies approach AI backwards — they build platforms first, then add AI as an afterthought.

For teams evaluating contract AI

What enterprise value actually looks like — before you buy James Parks · Chief Data Scientist, IntelAgree · from our webinar

We figured this out 8 years ago while working on a Big Four firm’s audit platform modernization. The AI tools they’d invested in could do impressive analysis but were fragmented, surprisingly hard to use, and impossible to customize. We watched teams struggle with systems that cost a fortune but couldn’t adapt to their specific needs. Even with massive resources, contract data was scattered and inaccessible.

We realized we were seeing both the promise and the problem with contract AI, which is why we decided to build our platform differently: make AI the foundation, then build everything else around it.

Our position — the balance point

“The value is not in picking one end of the spectrum or the other … it’s really understanding where using AI agents for a specific workflow makes sense, and where it doesn’t.”

James Parks, Chief Data Scientist, IntelAgree · from our latest webinar

That judgment is what IntelAgree is built on — AI-native CLM that’s adaptive where the work is new, and governed where it can’t bend. Neither rigid software you bend to, nor AI you can’t answer for.

Our story

Eight years of building AI for contracts — from the ground up.

2017
biotech

The Year of Ground-Up Training

SEC EDGAR · first ML models

We turned the SEC’s EDGAR database into our training ground. Pulled contracts from public filings and spent months manually labeling them to build our first machine learning models. This gave us complete ownership of our training data and let us automatically extract the clauses that matter, like renewal dates, governing law, and indemnity clauses.

The Year We Democratized AI

AutoML

We built AutoML so legal teams could train their own models. Users could upload contracts, tag examples, and watch the system learn to extract custom attributes. This democratized AI, giving teams autonomy to track any clause that mattered to their business.

The Year We Solved Contract Migration

Sort Assist · Microsoft Intelligent Cloud finalist

We launched Sort Assist to handle massive legacy contract migrations. Enterprise customers brought thousands of old contracts that needed organizing before implementation could begin. Our tool automatically classified contract types, spotted duplicates, and turned weeks of work into hours. That same year, IntelAgree was named a finalist for Microsoft’s 2019 Intelligent Cloud Awards in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning — recognizing the Azure-based contract intelligence behind this work.

The Year We Crowdsourced Intelligence

Self-improving · Bulk Tagging

We created a self-improving system where every click made the platform better. When someone corrected an extraction or confirmed it was right, the whole platform got smarter for everyone. We also added Bulk Tagging so teams could apply labels at scale and speed up model training.

The Year We Revolutionized Redlining

GenAI redlining · playbooks

GenAI opened up entirely new possibilities for contract redlining. Instead of basic find-and-replace, our system could explain its reasoning, follow company playbooks, and adapt to different contract styles. Redlining became this strategic tool for negotiation rather than just another manual task.

The Year Contracts Went Conversational

Saige Assist: Contract Advice · risk scoring

Natural language contract analysis arrived with Saige Assist: Contract Advice. We enabled people to ask questions like, “What’s the termination clause for this contract?” and get instant, accurate answers. Dynamic risk scoring also started flagging problematic clauses before they escalated into costly issues.

The Year GenAI Got Better Integrated

Salesforce · Workday

Instead of requiring people to come to us, we delivered AI directly into their workflows. We integrated our AI with Salesforce, Workday, and other platforms so users could access insights without switching apps, and legal intelligence reached frontline decision-makers.

The Year We Expanded Our AI

Operations-wide AI suite

We expanded our AI suite to tackle more busy work across operations. We developed customer support AI that drafts replies using ticket history and help systems that truly understand our platform. Teams could get more done in less time without cutting corners.

The Year We Made AI Accountable

Contract Risk Score · approval gates · authority limits

We turned AI from a fast assistant into something an enterprise could govern. Teams could now configure an explainable Contract Risk Score — choosing the attributes, weights, and bands themselves, with every attribute score rolling up into one risk profile for each agreement. We added approval gates that trigger on the terms that matter and hold a contract before it’s sent for signature, plus authority limits that route each approval to the person empowered to sign off — limits that can sync from systems like Workday. Adaptive AI, working inside your rules.

The Year the Platform Became Yours

Saige Assist: Agent · Custom Labels · out-of-office coverage

The newest chapter is about the platform bending to how your team actually works. We introduced Saige Assist: Agent with a prompt library — early-release agentic AI that puts repeatable contract reasoning to work. We began rolling out Custom Labels, so organizations can rename more than 150 system terms and have the platform speak their language. And we added out-of-office coverage with audited stand-ins, so approvals, review, and signing never stall when someone steps away. The platform now shapes itself to your operation.

Today, and what’s next

We’re building toward a future where enterprises capture the full value of every contract they sign.

Saige Assist

Built into the platform — not bolted on.

Contract-native AI, not a generic chatbot.

Saige Assist is IntelAgree’s generative AI layer, integrated throughout the platform rather than a generic LLM bolted on after the fact. Purpose-built for enterprise contracts, it understands the difference between force majeure and net-30, and it works inside the workflow your team already uses.

Why context is the moat

“When you’re redlining a contract, you may not know you’ve negotiated with this party six times in the past … you’re reinventing the wheel every time. There’s a whole lot of value just having the full context.”

James Parks, Chief Data Scientist, IntelAgree · from our latest webinar

Saige Assist reasons across your whole portfolio, not one document at a time — so every clause it extracts, risk it scores, and redline it suggests starts from what your team has already negotiated. A bolted-on chatbot can’t see that history. Saige is built on it.

IntelAgree Risk Score view: an explainable, configurable risk formula scoring each contract attribute by weight.

Clause Extraction & Risk Flagging
Automatically surfaces non-standard clauses, indemnification risk, and liability exposure across every document.
Renewal & Expiration Tracking
Track automatic renewals and expiration dates across your portfolio, surface agreements approaching expiration, and set the reminders that keep key dates from slipping.
Deviation Detection Against Playbooks
Compares incoming redlines against your legal playbook and scores deviation severity before your team touches a document.
Semantic Contract Search
Ask plain-language questions across your entire portfolio. Find every contract containing a specific clause in seconds.
AI-Assisted Redlining

Responsible AI

Four principles that guide our approach.

Governance you can prove

“How do you know the approvals that needed to be fired were fired? How do you know your compliance was followed? How do you know the right person approved and signed?”

James Parks, Chief Data Scientist, IntelAgree · on the limits of ungoverned AI, from our latest webinar

Every recommendation runs inside your approvals, your routing, and your audit trail — gated before signature, routed by authority limit, recorded end to end. So “how do we know?” always has an answer.

I can type in a party’s name and every contract associated with them pops up instantly.

Technology FAQ

Frequently asked questions about how the AI works.

Find answers to common questions about how IntelAgree works, what it can do, and how to make the most of it. Whether you’re reviewing language, searching for specific terms, or training your attributes, IntelAgree brings a new level of speed and clarity to the contracting process.

What does implementation look like?add
A dedicated enterprise team leads a phased rollout — configuration, data migration, and workflow setup — sequenced to your governance and review cadence. Implementation is a guided process with a named account team, not a self-serve scramble.
How does IntelAgree handle our existing templates and clauses?add
We import your library on day one and preserve your existing approval rules. The platform does not require you to redesign your contracting standards to adopt it.
Where does AI sit in the workflow?add
AI runs inside enterprise governance — not around it. Saige Assist proposes language, identifies risk, and assembles drafts; humans retain approval rights at every gate. Adaptive intent, bounded by your constraints.
Can buy-side and sell-side workflows coexist?add
Yes. IntelAgree was built for both directions of contracting. Procurement and revenue teams operate on the same platform with role-appropriate views, controls, and reporting.
